PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

IN SUPPORT OF AN ILLINOIS TRANSPORTATION ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM GRANT APPLICATION FOR BICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN IMPROVEMENTS ON THE DES PLAINES RIVER TRAIL

 

WHEREAS, the Forest Preserves of Cook County (the “Forest Preserves”) desires to submit a grant application to the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP) to request support for Phase 2 Engineering services for relocation, reconstruction and new pedestrian bridges on a 4.9-mile portion of the Des Plaines River Trail from Irving Park Road to Fullerton Road, also known as Segments 5 and 6 (the “Project”); and

 

WHEREAS, the Project would advance goals set forth in the Forest Preserves’ Trail Master Plan and Next Century Conservation Plan to improve access to outdoor recreation opportunities and would significantly improve 4.9 miles of this regional trail system; and

 

WHEREAS, the Des Plaines River Trail reconstruction is a current project that involves multiple partners and municipalities including the Village of Franklin Park and Village of River Grove; and

 

WHEREAS, this ITEP Grant would fund 80% of eligible Phase 2 Design Engineering costs of the Project with the remaining ineligible costs to be paid for with local Forest Preserves funds; and

 

WHEREAS, should the Forest Preserves be awarded this ITEP grant for the Project on Segments 5 and 6 of the Des Plaines River Trail, the Forest Preserves would request authorization from the Forest Preserves of Cook County Board of Commissioners to accept the funds and execute an agreement for the ITEP grant funds.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Forest Preserves of Cook County Board of Commissioners authorizes the Forest Preserves of Cook County to apply for this ITEP grant and commit to paying the local match (up to 20% of total Project costs), estimated to be $583,525.00, to complete the Phase 2 Design Engineering services and for all ineligible costs associated with the Project.end
