Summary: The Forest Preserves has been awarded a $50,000.00 federal grant through the Coastal Management Program from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to support the ecological restoration of 118 acres of coastal wetlands at Burnham Prairie Nature Preserve and Eggers Grove in the Calumet region. Restoration activities will include invasive species control on 78 acres at Burnham Prairie Nature Preserve, and 40 acres of large-scale wetland plug planting at Eggers Grove. The project will also include efforts to foster connections between neighboring communities and the preserves through a series of bird walks led by Audubon Great Lakes’ Wild Indigo Nature Exploration Program. The grant award requires the execution of a subrecipient agreement with the IDNR.
Total project costs are $100,500.00, of which the Forest Preserves are providing $50,500.00 in direct match.
