Summary: The Forest Preserves has been awarded a grant by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service via the Great Lakes Coastal Program. These grant funds provide for ecological restoration activities at Somme Nature Preserve which include clearing nineteen (19) acres of trees and brush and planting locally collected seed. This project advances the goals of the Next Century Conservation Plan and the Natural and Cultural Resource Plan which identified the 730-acre Somme Preserve complex as one of the highest priority landscapes for conservation and ecological restoration.
Total project costs are $152,332.00, with a 50/50 match contribution by each partner.
