Fiscal Impact: $939,000.00 (20% match up to $616,000.00 plus $15,000.00 for appraisal and closing costs and 10% contingency of $308,000.00)

Summary: The Forest Preserves has been awarded grant funds that will support the acquisition of a 44-acre parcel in Barrington Hills in northwest Cook County, Illinois. The parcel directly adjoins to the Spring Lake Preserve and will provide a link between this preserve and the property east of Old Sutton Road. The proposed acquisition contains some significant natural habitat that will expand habitat for wildlife as well as increase outdoor recreation opportunities. $10,000.00 of the awarded amount will be spent to begin restoring the site. The grant will fund 80% of the cost of the acquisition with the Forest Preserves providing a 20% match plus closing and appraisal costs and up to 10% contingency. The acquisition advances the goals of the Forest Preserves’ Land Acquisition Plan, Next Century Conservation Plan, and Acquisition and Disposition of Land Position Paper, and Chicago Wilderness’ Green Vision.
