PROPOSED RESOLUTION

 

RESOLUTION TO ACCEPT ADDITIONAL GRANT FUNDS

 

WHEREAS, on 1/26/2021, the Forest Preserve District of Cook County Board of Commissioners approved the acceptance of $750,000.00 in grant funding from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Museum Capital Grant program (Board Item No. 21-0101) to improve the Crabtree Nature Center in Barrington Hills; and

 

WHEREAS, the Forest Preserve District of Cook County’s (“Forest Preserves”) Department of Planning and Development successfully completed this grant project in 2023, improving the nature center’s accessibility and energy efficiency and updating its exhibits and signage; and

 

WHEREAS, due to various factors including supply chain issues during and following the COVID-19 pandemic, the actual project construction cost was significantly higher than the estimated total project cost of $1,000,000.00 at the time of the original IDNR Museum grant award; and

 

WHEREAS, the IDNR consequently intends to award the Forest Preserves an additional $300,000.00 towards this grant project’s expenses at no cost to the Forest Preserves, increasing the original grant award from $750,000.00 to $1,050,000.00.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Forest Preserves of Cook County Board of Commissioners hereby authorizes the Forest Preserves’ General Superintendent or their designee to accept any additional grant funds from IDNR towards the grant-funded renovation project of the Crabtree Nature Center located in Barrington Hills.
