Summary: On 3/14/2023, the Forest Preserves of Cook County Board of Commissioners approved an intergovernmental agreement between the Forest Preserves and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s Illinois State Archaeological Survey (Board Item No. 23-0223) to conduct a sponsored research study titled "First People in a New Landscape: An Interdisciplinary Investigation of Ice Age Cook County.”
The Forest Preserves is seeking to extend this agreement for one (1) year due to unforeseeable shifts in the field survey season, which impacted the original project implementation schedule. This extension also provides an opportunity to strengthen collaboration with Native American communities. Final amendment is subject to legal review and approval.
