Purpose: To provide additional time to complete Millennium Reserve Phase III grant activities, utilizing funds from The Nature Conservancy through the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation’s Save Our Great Lakes Program in support of habitat restoration at Thornton-Lansing Road Nature Preserve in Lansing and other sites within the Calumet region. This renewal is for an extension in time only; there is no additional cost or adjustment to the award amount.
Grant Amount: $170,000.00, per the original award. There is no additional grant funding associated with the renewal.

Summary: On 9/11/2018, the Forest Preserves’ Board of Commissioners approved the acceptance of grant funding from The Nature Conservancy via the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to restore coastal wetlands in the Calumet region (Board Item #18-0340). The Forest Preserves were sub-awarded a portion of these funds to complete 56 acres of wetland restoration at Thornton-Lansing Road Nature Preserve in south Cook County, in addition to 18 acres of wetland swale and adjacent upland habitat at Powderhorn Prairie and Marsh Nature Preserve in Burnham.
A no-cost extension of the grant is being requested to allow for remaining restoration tasks to be completed under suitable conditions to minimize impacts to the surrounding landscape, and facilitate supplemental monitoring activities. Total project costs for the Forest Preserves’ portion of the project are $340,000.00, with a 50/50 match contribution by each partner.
