Summary: The proposed grant will support the improvement of the existing Little Calumet Boat Launch on the Little Calumet River in Calumet Township in south Cook County to benefit boaters, paddlers and visitors. The launch currently serves motorized boats. Proposed improvements include a new canoe and kayak launch and ADA access upgrades. Pavement will replace gravel and dirt, additional picnic tables will be added, and shade trees will be planted to enhance the river-edge platform area and gathering space. In addition, a paved access path would be added from the existing parking lot, as well as a new ADA parking space located approximately 100 feet away. The estimated project cost is $525,280.00, $200,000 of which will be reimbursed through the grant. However, the Forest Preserves is requesting $105,056 in additional funds for contingency for a total project cost not to exceed $630,336.
