Summary: Phase II Engineering design for reconstruction of a segment of the Des Plaines River Trail between Lawrence Avenue and Irving Park Road (Segment 4) is sponsored by the Village of Schiller Park under an existing IGA approved by the Forest Preserves Board of Commissioners on September 21, 2021 (Board Item No. 21-0354). The Village has an existing contract with Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd., to perform these services. In the course of trail design, Forest Preserves staff requested a change in the trail alignment to minimize impacts on nearby trees and wetland areas. Because of this change, the Village’s engineering consultant will need to perform additional work that includes surveying the new alignment; creating a new plan and profile sheets, geometric coordination, Wetland Impact Evaluation forms and environmental coordination; and preparing an addendum to the Village’s engineering report. In order to proceed with supplemental engineering and keep the project on track under the existing IGA, the Forest Preserves has agreed to reimburse the Village for the required additional engineering services to be conducted by their consultant up to a not-to-exceed amount of $60,000.00.
