Ice Age Giants, Chicago Zoological Society/Brookfield Zoo, Brookfield

During the last major ice age, our human ancestors lived alongside enormous animals that made Earth their home for millions of years. This summer, Brookfield Zoo is unleashing more than 20 life-sized, animatronic re-creations of these giants that roamed North America and Eurasia before disappearing in a mass extinction about 10,000 years ago. Viewing is free with general admission.

Forest Therapy Walk, Busse Woods-South, Elk Grove Village

Awaken your senses and renew your bond with the nature and the Preserves. A Certified Forest Therapy guide will guide the walk. Ages 18 and up. Registration required.

 

Thursday, 9/22; 6pm - 8pm

Autumnal Equinox, Sand Ridge Nature Center, South Holland

Take in the colors of the season and learn about the cultural and ecological significance of the autumnal equinox. Light refreshments will be available. Registration required.

Bird Painting Step-by-Step: Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Trailside Museum, River Forest    

Sketch and paint a ruby-throated hummingbird. For beginners and experienced artists. Materials provided. $5 per person. Registration required.

Campfire Stories, Little Red Schoolhouse, Willow Springs

Enjoy a fun, interactive evening of storytelling by the fire with campfire treats. Bring your own mug and enjoy a warm beverage. Registration required.

Learn about nocturnal animals and more on a guided hike. $3 per person. Registration required by 9/20. Ages 6 and up.

Public Lands Day, Sagawau Nature Center, Lemont

Give back to nature at Sagawau! Help improve the health of our Forest Preserves by removing litter or cutting invasive brush. Litter picking supplies will be available. Tools and safety gear will be provided for invasive brush removal.
