Summary: Phase III engineering services are needed to oversee the rehabilitation of approximately 1.3 miles of the Des Plaines River Trail, including construction of new trail alignment, elevated boardwalk structure, rehabilitation of the 1st Avenue underpass, and a trail connection to Evans Field (Elmwood Park) and to Strieby Drive (River Grove), including signalized crossing at Strieby Drive. A federal Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP-L) grant will fund up to 80% ($901,700.00) of the total contract amount of $1,127,125.00 (excluding contingency). The Forest Preserves will be responsible for 20% ($225,425.00) of the cost as provided in a separate Local Public Agency Engineering Services Agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation, which is the subject of a separate Board resolution (Board Item No. 26-0310). A 10% contingency has been added so the total Forest Preserves share would not exceed $338,137.50 ($225,425.00 plus an additional 10% contingency of $112,712.50). Six (6) firms responded to a publicly advertised Request for Qualifications. Christopher B. Burke Engineering, Ltd. was selected based on qualifications.
