Summary: An increase in the original contract amount is needed to cover additional complexity in certain aspects of the original scope of work. This contract is for architectural and engineering services for the renovation and conversion of the existing Caldwell Woods Warming Shelter to a “Welcome & Wellness Center” and to improve access, landscaping, and information signage. As the design process proceeded, the Forest Preserves requested additional design schemes and revisions to several components to address long-term maintenance concerns relating to a new outdoor seating area and enhanced energy efficiency of the mechanical systems to advance the Forest Preserves’ sustainability goals. When renovation is complete in the fall of 2023, the building will be all electric. The additional services provided are resulting in more durable and energy-efficient improvements.
The original RFP for this project was solicited publicly and ten (10) firms submitted proposals. A contract was awarded by the Board of Commissioners on October 5, 2021 (Board Item No. 21-0421).
