Summary: The Department of Facilities and Fleet received permission from the Vehicle Steering Committee on 6/3/2025 to decommission fifty-three (53) Forest Preserves vehicles due to age, high mileage, and condition and purchase twenty-six (26) new replacement vehicles. The authorization request for this purchase involves fourteen (14) of the twenty-six (26) approved vehicles. The units will be assigned as follows: nine (9) units to the Department of Resource Management; two (2) units to the Department of Facilities and Fleet; one (1) unit to the Department of Conservation and Experiential Learning; and two (2) units to the Department of Landscape Maintenance. This purchase request is based on Suburban Purchasing Cooperative (SPC) Request for Proposals/Contracts #221 and #225 with Sutton Ford, Inc.

 

Thirteen (13) of these units will align with Forest Preserves of Cook County sustainability goals with propane conversions taking place after purchase. The only proposed vehicle purchase that does not meet the needs of our vehicle sustainability goals is the purchase of one (1) F350 diesel pickup truck that will be used for hauling heavy paving equipment for Landscape Maintenance.
