Title: PROPOSED RESOLUTION CELEBRATING DR. KENNETH KREBS FOR HIS DEDICATION TO THE CHICAGO BOTANIC GARDEN WHEREAS, the Chicago Botanic Garden is a successful public-private partnership, owned by the Forest Preserves of Cook County and operated by the Chicago Horticultural Society; and WHEREAS, Dr. Kenneth A. Krebs, DMD, is the recipient of the Chicago Botanic Garden's Volunteer of the Year Award for his service in 2019; and WHEREAS, the Volunteer of the Year Award was initiated in 1984 to focus attention on the outstanding support to the Garden each year by its numerous volunteers, and to recognize the contribution of one special volunteer as an example of extraordinary service; and WHEREAS, Dr. Krebs grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, and attended Indiana University and completed his dental school and specialty training at the University of Louisville and University of Kentucky; and WHEREAS, after an internship at Chicago's Michael Reese Hospital, Dr. Krebs and his wife Sandy settled o...

CELEBRATING DR. KENNETH KREBS FOR HIS DEDICATION TO THE CHICAGO

BOTANIC GARDEN

 

WHEREAS, the Chicago Botanic Garden is a successful public-private partnership, owned by the Forest Preserves of Cook County and operated by the Chicago Horticultural Society; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Kenneth A. Krebs, DMD, is the recipient of the Chicago Botanic Garden’s Volunteer of the Year Award for his service in 2019; and

 

WHEREAS, the Volunteer of the Year Award was initiated in 1984 to focus attention on the outstanding support to the Garden each year by its numerous volunteers, and to recognize the contribution of one special volunteer as an example of extraordinary service; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Krebs grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, and attended Indiana University and completed his dental school and specialty training at the University of Louisville and University of Kentucky; and

 

WHEREAS, after an internship at Chicago’s Michael Reese Hospital, Dr. Krebs and his wife Sandy settled on the North Shore; and

 

WHEREAS, in addition to practicing in Chicago and Wilmette, Dr. Krebs was the executive director of the Midwest Society of Periodontology from 1998 to 2012; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Krebs also proudly served as president of the American Academy of Periodontology in 2006; and

 

WHEREAS, after a long career in periodontics, Dr. Krebs is enjoying his retirement; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Krebs was inspired by his wife Sandy’s frequent bike rides through the Garden to attend a volunteer orientation session; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Krebs donates his time as a writer of the Garden Update article in the bi-monthly “Grounds Cover” newsletter, the Chicago Botanic Garden’s volunteer newsletter; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Krebs diligently conducts and tapes interviews, expeditiously turning in article drafts; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Krebs enjoys photography and using his camera; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Krebs enrolled in several photography and Adobe Lightroom classes on his own time to hone his craft and better support the Garden; and


WHEREAS, Dr. Krebs has put his passion for photography to use as an integral part of the Living Plant Documentation Department’s digital photography team for almost 15 years, now leading a team of six people who photograph and download their work into a computer database; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Krebs serves a mentor to new members and interns on the digital photography team; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Krebs is inclined to step forward to be of helpful whenever the need presents itself, and in a display of his commitment to service, it is not unusual for Dr. Krebs to volunteer several days a week.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Toni Preckwinkle, President, and the Forest Preserves of Cook County Board of Commissioners do hereby honor Dr. Krebs for receiving the Chicago Botanic Garden’s Volunteer of the Year Award; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of the Resolution be tendered to Dr. Krebs as a means of communicating our thanks and well wishes.      end
