WHEREAS, on August 23, 2014, the Forest Preserve District of Cook County (“the Preserves”) celebrated twenty-five (25) years of collaborative restoration with the Poplar Creek Prairie Stewards; and WHEREAS, the Poplar Creek Prairie Stewards have diligently worked on every weekend throughout the year for the last twenty-five years to restore more than 250 acres of habitat including tall grass prairies, woodlands and wetlands at Carl R. Hansen Woods which includes a nine (9) acre dedicated nature preserve; and WHEREAS, these restoration efforts have dramatically improved habitat for native plants and animals; and WHEREAS, the Poplar Creek Prairie Stewards embody the spirit of volunteerism and have awoken an interest in nature in the countless students, youth groups, and families that have joined them in these restoration efforts.
